'Yves Tanguy und der Surrealismus' - Karin von Maur, Hatje Cantz, 2001

Edited by Karin Von Maur

Published by Hatje Cantz Publishers, 2001.

Hardback, 252 pages

ISBN: 3-7757-0964-9

Photos posted here to give would-be buyers of 2nd-hand copies an idea of the contents, layout etc. Which I think is essential when they're difficult to come by and are priced at 80, 100, 200 quid or more.

Verdict: It's very good but not perfect.  Certainly not the dream monograph that some Amazon reviews make it out to be.  For me that would be all of the works, all in full colour, as large as possible on the page and no text anywhere near 'em, bar the title etc.

A decent number of paintings do get that treatment, but a lot are reproduced small and scattered throughout the text, as if mere illustrations of the essays; and that bugs the living crap out of me.

I would put this in the "spend 20 to 30 quid and you won't feel ripped off" bracket.

This is the German text version btw; there is an English version.
